Sewer Caps

The word "sewer" has a negative connotation, but I find the caps to be quite beautiful.
Notice the thought put into the design — the lettering and the patterns.
They were designed to endure, and many display the year of their creation.
I found several within walking distance dating back to the
1920s and '30s. My mother lived on Bauer Place in Mineola as a young child.
There I found a cap dated from the year she was born, 1936.
How serendipitous.

The company that made this was established in 1921 and still exists today.

This is a water meter cap, but it was too cool not to be included. Notice the stars.

(On a recent trip to London, I discovered things were shaping up a bit differently there.)
