paintings & procrastinations

ENTRY 19

Back to painting!Somehow in the midst of school ending for my son, transitioning into summer and World Cup Craziness, and making sure my family was fed, I started painting and collaging again. Instead of thinking, "What will people like?" — the question all insecure artists (that was redundant!) ask, I am trying very hard to paint as a form of self expression, so that I am producing art, not products. Not so easy.

The Haunted Housewife
I did a quick sketch in my journal relating to a recurring dream in which we sell our home and buy a huge home with many rooms that all need fixing up. It's a terrible anxiety dream for me. I am quite content with my little home and don't need more rooms to clean!

Still need to finish this up, but almost done. 11"x14"

Who Will Bathe Me When I'm Old?
This question has been haunting me lately as I've been caring for my mother who has come home from the hospital. I am my mother's only daughter after three boys. I don't have a daughter, so this question makes me anxious.

I came across an unfinished painting and paired it with this question. I have many more hours to put in on it, but here is how it progressed.

Many more layers of paint to go. 24"x24"

The Face Book
This is an ongoing collage project. Something for fun. This one started as a page from my journal called "The Morning Shave".

So this is what I have been up to this week.
I've had to fight my insecurities to get going again. I often have a flurry of activity and then ask myself, "What is the point of doing this?" But I know I have no choice. It's what I do, who I am, and it make me happy.

  1. I get the sense that you hate housework, are having to deal with old people (which makes you worried about getting there yourself), and have a husband who needs a shave.
